In case you didn't read about it in the Laguna Seca Tickets for sale section, here is the story about my accident.... I have heard that versions of it are spreading around town rapidly, so here is the real story....
:crash:
Yep, I crashed my limited edition R1. I had it for a glorious 2 weeks and 1,500 miles. I loved it. I don't believe it was too much power, but not being a very large or strong woman, I had to really throw myself off of the side to take a corner fast. We were coming down from the top of Mary’s Peak and I should have done a “systems check” on how I was feeling when I got back on the bike. I got tired when we were hanging out at the top and really didn’t acknowledge it. About four corners down I was in a really sunny area, then went into a really dark shaded area and by the time my eyes adjusted a corner had snuck up on me. Being on a larger bike I didn’t feel I had time to throw myself off the side far enough to make the corner and so I grabbed some front brake. The side of the road was full of fir-needle debris about a foot or so into the road. When I hit that the bike slid out (low-sided?). I believe I hung with the bike until it hit the soft gravel. Then it flipped the bike over and catapulted me about 20’ in the air, clearing a log, and into the middle of a 20 foot patch of brush, where I rolled head over heals about 4 times. I stopped approximately 40-50 feet down the embankment. Ten feet in either direction and I would have hit large rocks and trees. The bike ended up rolling head to tail down the very steep incline at least 8-10 times, hitting a tree and multiple large rocks. There is virtually nothing unbroken on the bike. The engine case has a hole in it, the sub frame broke OFF on both the front and back. 80 percent of the plastic came off the bike. I truly believe that there was some divine intervention, as I ended up with just a little road rash, a little bruising, and a nickel size deep gouge in my knee. All considering, I am VERY lucky!!! I, by all means, should probably be paralyzed or dead right now. The Joe Rocket Ballistic pants and Shoei helmet definitely saved me. I was actually more sore the week before when I did a super-man air off the dirt bike. (...how I got the matching road rash on the other hip…lol.) I am very sad that the bike is gone, and I won’t be going to Laguna. I was going to get another R1, but I believe that…yes, everyone was right, a 600 would just be much more “flick-able” in the corners. So I am looking at that route this time. It’s just in my personality that if someone tells me that I can’t do something I am damn well going to do it!!! … even if it is not very bright…lol. I have never ridden without full gear, and I feel very fortunate for that. If you are curious as to what the bike looks like after that check out my Myspace pictures at….
