Springfield motorcyclist dies in crash near Albany

A Springfield man was killed in a motorcycle crash south of Albany late
Sunday.

A Linn County sheriff's sergeant on patrol near the Calapooia River
discovered the crash early Monday, at least an hour after it occurred.

Sheriff's investigators believe that Michael David Phillips, 37, was
driving a Honda motorcycle east on Riverside Drive when he struck a
sign post at the intersection with Oakville Road. Phillips was found
dead near the motorcycle. He was wearing a helmet.

Phillips was alone on the bike, and investigators have found no
witnesses to the crash.

If you look at the map/sat image on Google - how in the heck do you hit a signpost on that stretch of road? Did he fall asleep? Drunk? Heart attack?
