Video (http://i-am-bored.com/bored_link.cfm?link_id=25191)
I tried to pay close attention to this video to determine, if I thought the officer stepped over the line. I will say that in my own opinion, he most certainly did. There is a point about half way through the vid. that I really felt like the officer was calming down and making some genuine comments about his concerns for the driver, but then he goes off again. After that I had nothing but contempt for the officer. I have little doubt that the driver was under the impression that he did something wrong. I routinely use the pull into a parking lot before officers can pull me over and most of the time they leave and keep on driving, but not always. The driver was defensive, but fully within his rights. The officer escalated the situation (at times threatening to bring false allegations of resisting arrest), without do cause. I do not know for sure what the end results of this were, but it was posted that the officer was put on unpaid leave. :idunno:Watch for yourself, and post up.
I will say it before anyone else needs to:
Please keep your comments clean, and try to avoid generalizing. This officer is a "person" first and an "officer" second. Let's keep things to a case-by-case basis.
Thank you.

I could write a novel on this, but I won't. I'm glad none of the officer's I know are like that - at least as far as I am aware. It's sad to me how asserting one's rights is seen as being uncooperative.

I saw this yesterday. What a jerk. Some people get a little power and go a little crazy. Far as I'm concerned it has little to do with being a cop...I'd say he's an a$$ first, officer second. Could have just as easily been a judge, doctor, gas attendant, even the little ****s at Micky D's get like that sometimes. Some people just shouldn't be granted power over anything.
(BTW, Brian, I love your sig line!)

well there are alot of cool cops and alot that are power happy like that guy.
I like the part when he said he will just make up sh@t to nail that kid with.
I keep a recorder just for when and if I get stoped. It looks like a cell phone it is great to have. I have had a cop harrass me and he got into some trouble over it.

I hear the cop being belligerent and not the driver.
back in 1986 I had a situation in Venice, Ca. like that. I was visiting my uncle and was just driving around showing my friend that was with me around the area and made a wrong turn into a apartment area. turned around and a cop was going through the opposite way. We were in the parking lot going slow so I waved. hmmm, bad idea they pulled me over and told me about thieves and stuff. I said it's not people from Oregon driving all the way down here to steal from you. I just made a wrong turn. well, before the night was over they had 3 cars and 6 cops there threatening to haul me in and everything in the car was now outside the car and I mean every stitch of cloth was outside the bags all over the ground. Just for that one statement I made. They didn't even help load it back up when they were wrong. hmmmmmmm.

First off, the Sgt. was wrong. plain and simple. However, there is much more to the story.
The kid involved is no angel. how many of you video yourself driving around at 2:30 in the morning? i'd bet 0. he said he's had run-ins with the police before so he video tapes his encounters with the police. wouldn't you wait until you have a contact with the police to begin recording? I mean why waste the battery and tape you just driving down the street right? How many encounters, especially bad ones, has this kid had to need to video his police contacts. I suppose all the cops that he as dealt with are aholes and he's an angel. ya right.
I think it was a set-up. He drives right past where the Sgt. is parked (again, with video already rolling) and goes and parks in a bus transit lot at 2:30 in the am. Would you not expect the Officer to come speak to you and see what you are up to? I would think so. So the Sgt. comes up and is cordial in the beginning and the kid starts off with a smart toned remark about it being his right to park there. He may be allowed to be there or he may not. I don't know the area. I have no problem with someone claiming their rights, but if I'm not being an ahole to you, then don't be an ahole to me. People also tend to think that they have more rights than they do.
So the Sgt. goes off and screws up big time. If you have p.c. to hook him you can tell him that but don't threaten to violate his civil rights. So my point is neither person was right in this encounter.

:bash: I would have ended up going to jail. Thats just my prediction. wonder how mad he would have been if he was pulling me over for wheelieing past him. I would have made a comment about his pretty lil hat.

I have to agree with code3rider.,, first off the kid turns in without using his blinker, and kinda looks like hes going pretty fast( right in front of the cop) also,,,its 2:30 in the morning,, ,,cops are out looking at that time..

sounds like officer dooey. i wonder if the kid has done something to officer dooey prier to putting the camera in his car. but i definately think officer dooey was making some outlandish threats, he couldn't quite get his frustration into words.
