Coming in from flourence last thursday, heard a sound like something metal was rattling around under me. pulling in my clutch to try and hear what exactly what it was. to my surprise the clutch had no effect.
drove it home, and pulled into a buddys shop, who was formilure with harly's atleast tried to take a look at it tonight, taking the side off on the clutch case the cable was fine.
Im not a mechanic, and i really dont have the slightest clue how it all really works besides fuel and fire. but they said something about the pressure plate, adjusting some parts they got the clutch to actually give some tension on the pads. but when i started it after getting it all back together, it made a real bad grinding sound... and thats how i left it.

Looks like for the 1st time i get a thursday off, i wont have the bike to ride in on.

Dang Jason. sorry to hear about the bike trouble. could it be something in the actual gear box? you might drain the oil and check for metal fileings... keep us posted buddy and good luck on finding and fixing the problem.

I dont have a manual right now, and not really in the position to buy one, but if anyone has a '00 gsxr600 service manual, and could possible make a copy of the clutch section i would be most appriciative..

What do you mean by "no effect"? The rattling did not go away?
Try this. Dont start it. Put it in gear. Pull the clutch and push the bike forward or backward with your feet while sitting on it.
1. Does it move?
Yes? OK. Next step.
No? Most likely a clutch problem or adjustment.
2. Then let the clutch out slowly.
Does it grab? Yes? You are looking at a possible mainshaft problem or bearing in the transmission.
No? Adjust clutch. Does not adjust. Replace clutch.
If anytime you can not get the bike to move with the clutch in and in gear, adjust the clutch until you can.
I assume whoever took this apart looked at the pieces carefully.
I am guessing without looking and hearing it, it is probably transmission internal but lets hope for a better solution.

so in gear no, it would not move. but once i have it started
it gets up and goes, theres no slipping that i can tell.
i think the mechanism that activates the clutch has a problem.

i dunno, il keep posting throughout my situation

First I have to ask if it is a hydraulic clutch? Since it is a smaller CC bike I am assuming a cable operated clutch.
If I am reading this correctly, the problem is between the part that moves outside the clutch case and the pushrod. I think Suzuki has a fork-like connector that pushes the pressure plate with the use of a pushrod off the clutch disks. You are going to have to pull the cover off again, and look to see if in the middle that the pressure plate moves towards the outside of the bike. If it doesnt then most likely your rattle is the broken pushrod.
See blowup drawing...

The NUT that holds the clutch basket had come off or loosed its way out something, but tightend that **** up and got everything together and she starts up clean and works aight.

Not riding it until i find a replacment nut
change the oil n filter again

Now my buddy who did this work, mech down at the bmw shop
said i should find out what the torqe spec is on that bolt.
anyone know how i might find that info?

Tooooooo easy!!!

What size stud that the nut goes on. Or is it an M8 or M6...etc size nut? Then I can tell you torque and u gotta use new.
