Welcome JoFunk! great to have you here. sounds like you have a nice bike. Have you made it to bike night yet?
As for frame sliders, Im sure that there are several companies out there that sell them. Here is a quick couple Ive found...
Swing arm sliders: http://store.58cycle.com/product_p/cf%20ss%20sv6%2099-02.htm
Frame sliders: http://store.58cycle.com/product_p/bbrp%20fs%20pol%20sv6s%2003-04.htm
And Im sure there are a bunch more out there. Hope that helps a bit. Again, welcome to you!
Stay long and post often!

Hey there. Just wanted to log on and say hello. I ride and SV650 and am looking for a good set of frame sliders for my bike. Any thoughts? Suggestions?I don't have a thought for you but I do have a suggesion. Don't over tighten them when you put them on if they replace the engine mount bolts. Check the lbs needed and don't go over it. That means you have to use a torque wrench. Don't say I didn't tell you so. You didn't say thanks, (which I usually require with my valuable input) but you're welcome anyways.

Any thoughts on whether the carbon fiber sliders are better quality/more reliable than the hard plastic ones?

Any thoughts on whether the carbon fiber sliders are better quality/more reliable than the hard plastic ones? That would depend on how well the carbon fiber sliders are made. USUALLY, real carbon fiber sliders are very good and look so damned sexy.
Just beware of the "Carbon fiber look" kinds.

Carbon fiber is typically made in "sheets" (like laminates) like fiber glass, not in solid shapes. I'm not sure I've ever seen a frame slider that was 100% carbon fiber - only the ones with the carbon fiber outer sleeve.
