Hey guys,

I'm curious, how often do you replace your chain/sprockets for regular maintenence?

My bike has just over 8k and I don't have a manual for it (i figure that kind of info would be in there).

Also, valve tuning? when should I have that done?

Thanks in advance!

For the chain and sprocket, it all depends on how you ride I think. Take a look at it. Inspect it for wear on the chain. Your sprocket should be uniform meaning each "spike" should look symetrical. On a worn sprocket the spike start to look like little waves. Google that ish. Im not sure how to investigate a chain. I just change mine after every ride. Good luck

p.s. im sure there are better real answears from real riders here. Check gixxer.com and GSXR.com forums - there are some smart people on there sometimes if you can wade through all the B.S.

yea i know how to inspect a sprocket, i'm just curious for an average mileage on chains and sprockets from different folks i guess. I tried the gsxr.com etc.. but there was way too much bs on there. I don't know how to inspect a chain though, and the last thing i want is to be cruisin and throw one ya know.

pull the chain at the back side of the sprocket. if you see light replace. the teeth on the sprocket wear in a bunch of different ways, left right front back. even is what you want. i got 45k outta my first set and that was the stock set up with two seasons of drag racing and daily rides on. i maintain my chain often. correct tension, clean and lubed.

For proper break in and wear, sprockets & chain should all be changed at the same time. Your chain will be toast before the sprockets are done. If you don't keep your chain lubed, the life will be shortened by a significant amount.

Thanks guys, I checked and my sprockets wearing pretty evenly and the chain looks good from what i can tell. I try to hit it with chain wax after every good ride, or once a week, depending...

Just gotta say, Bel Ray SuperClean chain lube... It really is No Fling, and no build-up.... The best out there in my book.:2cents:

torco for me. i lube after riding as needed at least once a week. and when i swapped the running gear last time i only did it becasue i wanted to not becasue it needed it. prime is correct in the maintenance will totally lengthen the life of the parts. a dry chain is asking for trouble especially if you ride ass.

This is older I know but I'll chime in still

There is a spec for chain stretch. For my 07 GSXR 600 (525 chain) the measurement is 319.4 mm between center to center over 21 pins. I would assume that it's the same for all 525 chains. If you need better clarification let me know and I'll dumb it down. I know I get too technical sometimes.
