I just bought a 2006 Honda Rebel with only 216 miles on it so I assumed nothing would be wrong. The thing is, it sat for almost a year before anyone rode it. It was taken to Cycle Sports in Eugene and had the carbourator cleaned and just a general look over. They gave it a clean bill of health, but twice now i've ridden it and it just quits in the middle of my ride after it gets warmed up. Once pulling up to a stop sign and the second time while on the freeway. Usually I can get it started again by coasting and dumping the clutch but not standing still using the battery. The lights are on bright and it turns over fine, it's just that it needs to cool down before I can start it again. Has anyone ever heard of this happening or any instances of problems with this particular bike?

low idle, crud in the carb, rust in the tank, hot coil, low tire, bug on the wind screen, mouse in the muffle. :idunno:

your bike should go thou a 100% inspection, check the air box for spiders, replace all fluids fork, engine, radiator, brake and clutch. check for lose nut and do the same for the bike. check the tire pressure and look for flat spots on the tire. (flat spots can happ'n when the bikes been sitt'n to long). oil and check the chain. or get clint to look at it.

oh ya you'll need a manual for your bike

and some tools too.

:rad:Thanks guys, at the cost of sounding optimistic I think I fixed the problem. I took off the gas cap and replaced it with a piece of duct tape and put a little slit in it so the tank could breathe. Let the bike warm up then took it for a ride, about 27 miles no problems at all. See, the cap is supposed to be sealed (non-venting) but the hose at the bottom of the tank was pinched so it wasn't allowing proper flow into the carb and therefore suffocating the engine. I am going to continue my testing tomorrow but I am pretty confident that solved it.:clapping:

you saved yourself a trip to a mechanic and/or a bunch of unnecessary work.

I was just going to suggest tank ventilation as a likely problem. Had that issue myself.

Yeah, 130 miles yesterday and not a single hiccup. I was all ready to have it checked out for 60 bucks an hour, so you can imagine my relief when the problem was that simple.

good for you!!! any time you can avoid paying someone else is a good time. as it is around esb there is usually someone who can steer you in the right direction to where you can fix it yourself. rarely will you need to take your bike in. especially yours that is new. save your 60 bucks for gas.

Nothing worse than restricted flow because of a pinch in your line....
