I just rode this rode this afternoon and there has been fresh oil put down on the blacktop within the last week or so.
My question:
Does anyone have any feedback as to how the oil/tar impacts the "stick" factor of the tires to the road?
The glossy sheen always plays tricks on my head as it looks to much like wet roadway so I have always been overly cautious when I see this. :idunno:

I rode out there and it trips me out too. I always slow way down. I don't trust it. It seems like it would be slippery.

I don't trust it either... there is usually alot of small loose gravel with it. I treat it as I would wet roads that haven't been rained on in a while... with great caution. I know people that still fly through it, but I for one don't need another insurance claim this year. We ran into it the same thing on a road in Roseburg today and I dropped my speed at least 20 MPH until we got out of it. I still don't completely trust the stuff they put down on Hamm Rd a few weeks ago, although every time I ride that road my speed keeps creeping up... testing it out... so far so good.
... now if we could just get rid of the F***ing deer!

Yea, we were out on that same road this morning before the car wash. I dont know if there is an added danger factor or not. Common sense tells me that if there was a danger of it making the road more slippery, then the county would be opening themselves up for lawsuits...but it also tells me not to trust it. If I would have put more thought into it, Id have stopped, gotten of my bike, and put my hand down to feel the road and get a better idea of what it is like. Best advice...Be cautious as usual.
Ever since I had an encounter with a patch of fresh tar mid corner in Cali., unexpectingly feeling both wheels slide and causing a major pucker moment, I always slow it down on new pavement. Ya never know what to expect...
Well I know it's been a while, but I just rode out there today and I stopped to check it out. At least at this point, the new stuff actually seems "stickier" than the areas on the shoulder that they didn't resurface. It's still shiny, but definatly not slippery. All the rocks are gone now, except on the shoulder...there's still a lot there, past the white line.
