So on my way home for lunch, which is less than a mile commute, I got pulled over turning into my driveway. Kinda bewildered as to what I had done wrong, i was thinkin it must just be Trailer or JO JO, stoppin to say hi. But nope, turns out it was T. Boggs (sutherlin Police Chief) in an unmarked ford taurus. Officer Boggs asked if there was a specific reason that i was "dancing back and forth in my lane." I said, "well, I commute back and forth in a straight line, if I carve a little it just kinda helps with not wearing a flat spot." Mind you, I have done this everyday, to and from work and at lunch for at least two weeks now. I wasn't speeding, I never crossed yellow lines, or anything like that. I explained this to him and he retorted, with a smug, quite self-assured grin, "you woudn't have done it, if you'd seen me in a 'black and white,' but since I'm in this (unmarked taurus), you just thought it was ok. How many other officers have seen you do it?" I replied, " plenty, I always make sure to waive at them as I pass, I didn't realize that it wasn't okay..." So anyhow, I kept any snide remarks and comments about 'safety' and how cars are more apt to notice me... :blah-blah , to myself. Officer Boggs, checked my license/registration/ insurance, and let me know that it isn't allowed on city streets. I thanked him for his time, and he left my driveway.
I dont really know the legality of it, but I thought I'm allowed to use all of my lane, 'from line to line' like it states in the Manual? Oh well, no harm no foul. Just 15 min of my life i'll never get back. :ride:

I do the same thing when I feel invisible in town usually long straights. Not real aggressive just a slight back and forth. At least you didn’t say my grandmother drives a Taurus . All kidding aside he was doing what he was trained to do. I imagine he could have found a reason to ticket. Being polite and courteous is always the way to go

I'm guessing it makes other drivers nervous, not knowing if we are going to swerve over into their lane. I know cars usually give me more space when I do it.

Sheriff on hwy 99 headed to j/c watched me do it.... I just waved and didnt get pulled over. But also I only do it if there no cars around me. Atleast he didnt give you a ticket for it.
In my car i got pulled over in my driveway years ago and the officer was trying to tell me that I dont live here?? :bash: I just stated in a semi nice way "Officer, the address on my drivers license matches the address on my front doore." HAHA and kinda chuckled... No ticket, he just checked if I was lagit then left.

I've said this before; refer to your local vehicle code. If it isn't mentioned, and if you weren't doing anything that could be construed as endangering anyone, Chief Bogg's probable cause for stopping you just went out the window. Mike, we understand if you don't want to comment, but I for one would like to hear it.

I do that all the time, it's boring riding around town doing 30! Once we find out if it's actually legal or not I'll float up that way and try it. ;)

T. Boggs? As in officer Tom Boggs? As in the jerk who used to harrass the heck out of my friends and I in Reedsport twenty years ago? He pulled me over in my Chevelle once because "the back window was fogged up" and he didn't know how I could possibly see behind me. So I illustrated the side mirror technique and then asked him if he pulled over every van that didn't have windows in the back. I felt I could get away with being just a little smart with him since I knew he had pulled me over for no other reason than because he just watched me buy beer and he wanted to check the ages of my passengers. How about the time I saw him crossing the cross walk on hwy 101 against the don't walk signal so I stopped by the station to inquire about it. He said officers are allowed leinency in the law in order to do their job. I could go on and on. I guess you can all figure out how I feel about T. Boggs. His son was a great kid though. He used to come drink beer at my place when he was in high school. LOL We miss you Ben. Rest in peace.
