My grandfather was a bombardier in WWII......I got some crazy pics as well. According to relatives he would do around 50+ missions a week and was only shot down once in Naples, Italy. Fortunately, he survived thanks to some friendly Italians that snuck him out of the country. He also went a little nuts after blaming himself for countless deaths from the ridiculous bombing and later became a US attorney haha.
I think he flew a B-17 Flying Fortress, but I'm not 100% sure.
