I've been dying to try this one out and I finally took this route yesterday. I had believed that the road was in pretty good shape and I was disappointed. There was a lot of new asphalt that had corse sand laid on top of it between Disston and the point where Brice Cr Rd becomes FS road 22. That part of the route should be in great shape once it gets cleaned up. Going up hill from there, the road was in pretty good shape until the left turn onto 5850. From there on there was a lot of debris in the road and several sections of gravel. Nothing dangerous, but I spent more time dodging objects :eek:than I did enjoying the ride. The last segment (FS rd 2102) was a little bit better.

On the upside, there were some really great views along the way and it's really beatiful up there. Too bad I forgot my camera.

Mats, it is a very beautiful ride, but it has never been a "nice" road. it's a lot better than it used to be, but it is a real patched-together bunch of goat trails in some spots. I am riding it in 2 weeks.

I thought my standards were low enough.... I was thinking it would be a one lane road similar to Smith River rd on the way to Reeds port. It was much narrower than that. It looks like there were a couple of nasty slides last winter. That would account for gravel sections.

I think I'd actually would do it again, but I'd do it with a different frame of mind and I'd bring a camera. The Multistrada was better for rides like this.
