Guys if you have a 2006+ Yamaha R6 PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE CHECK YOUR AIR FILTERS!!

If you have seen them, you know they use 4 screws to hold down. Well, Yamaha has a recall on the air filters to replace since the screws FALL OUT and get stuck, causing bike to red line instantly!

Few months ago we heard of a kid in washington getting hurt cause this happened, however he installed a K&N Filter.

Last month Sam Vertirico OMRRA/WMRRA #455 had a NASTY 125+mph crash at Infineon raceway when this SAME THING happened! Sam had the oem never touched air filter, and the oem screw had done the same. He never got a recall and since its a race bike and used as such, he was sol.

Then today, a good friend of mine JUST did the exact same and crashed his beautiful R6, he recently installed smog plates and a bmc filter. He did not loc tite the screws and one fell out..he heard a rattle...then moments later throttle stuck! We checked it and found 2 of the other 4 were backed out and ready to fall out as well. "luckily" he was in a parking lot, not the freeway!

PLEASE GUYS!

1. Make sure if you have an OEM air filter that its the NEWER one that ends in -01 (i believe)

2. NO MATTER WHAT FILTER, OEM, BMC, or KN...PLEASE USE RED LOC TITE AND SILICONE OVER THE SCREWS!

This is a VERY poor design and i feel bad for everyone. Please check guys (also, the CBR600 is prone to this as well!!)

Thanks

I will try to get around to this before next trackday. Although, I will probably use blue loctite. I don't recommend red for anything that you will ever need to remove again. I have never had a problem with blue either, so should work fine. (You can write that on my tumbstone, if need be. :crash:  )
