As many of you who own an 04-06 Yamaha R1, the seating arrangement isnt exactally the most comfortable one. I did some searching around and found an interesting seat mod that is supposed to take a bit of the weight off of your wrists and move your grollies (if your a guy) away from the tank a bit.
I just compleated this mod myself, and I do notice it does help a some. Ofcourse the true test will be on a nice long ride. Its no corbin, but it is about $350.00 cheaper, and can be done in about an hour.
Heres the mod:

.
remove seat
remove staples that hold cover on, leave staples at back though.
pull cover back and remove foam.
using hack saw blade or bread knife cut foam protrusion that goes into seat off as seen in pic.
I also put a 1/4" foam piece under the front 3-4 inches of stock foam pad to level it a little more.
put foam and cover on and secure with 1/4 or 3/8" staples.
Seat will appear stock but will level out and sink into pan becoming slightly concave which matches your a$$ better.

He also put on an ass sticker on my part of the seat. Like Sam has on your bike. I love it, makes riding so much better. Now, if we could just find a way for my knees to quit crampin up...

I road to the coast and back today with Kris riding 2 up, and I have to say that I wasnt NEARLY as exhausted, tired, or sore. I also added that no slip stuff to the rear seat though and Im sure that helped. But it sure was more comfortable!
Andy, if you're considering just gutting the stock exhaust and then riviting it back together...Don't. Ive considered the same thing, and from everything Ive read on the new R1's it robs horse power because it eliminates the NEEDED backpreassure. But Ive heard it IS LOUD. lol

Hmmmm, I need to do something like that on my CBR. It's the same way where it really forces you down into the tank and therefore causes alot of strain on your arms.
