I have been waiting until I could bear to type this post.

The buell and I had a little conflict on August 8th. I have been too embarased to post about it until now.

I was out with a friend, since I was on my permit, he was a licensed rider. We grabbed a bite to eat at Taco bell and while getting ready to leave I get a phone call from my wife. She is at block buster grabbing a movie. Me in all my infinite wisdom decided that I could ride the 1.5 miles from taco bell to blockbuster to home without said rider.

He lives around the corner from us and was heading home. I figured no biggie it is only a fricken mile and a half.

So heading down echo hollow, it was very slow since there was a guy about 3 cars up that didn't know where he was going. I was in first at a little more than an idle. I wave off the rider in the other lane and double check the car at the, waiting to turn into my lane. When there is suddenly a car stopped dead in front of me. He had pulled out from behind the van that was behind the bike.

This guy pulls out and stops because the traffic was not moving. So I hit the binders. I slid foward onto the airbox ( I ride a buell ) and when I rolled off the throttle I grabbed WAAAAAAAAY to much front brake. Can we say ENDO.

I landed on my left shoulder and hit really hard. Jumped up picked up the bike and there was a guy asking if I was alright, checked out the bike and got it started again. Broken mirror, broken peg, no bigg deal. SHoulder hurt ok. I get home get theback pack and jacket off and the shoulder is hurt pretty bad. OK, call the wife head to urgent care.

Broken Scapula the doctor actually said that I was not right since I rode home and was not complaining about the pain.

So what did I learn. Well scars heal, paint can be fixed and

DONT RIDE WITH OUT A LICENSE

I will be taking the BRT next month.

glad it wasnt worse for you... licenses are important to have and the safety class is even more valuable.. i had to escort an unendorsed rider to save and impound not too long ago. anyways... are you registered for the class already??

I know you're thankful it was at a slow pace and on a city street. It could have been far uglier!
Plz tell us you have taken the rider safety classes. If not, why are you on a Buell??? That's a hell of alot machine for the inexperienced.

I'm happy you're ok and have kearned the hard way that you are ALWAYS invisible!

getwell and we'll see you out there.

...the doctor actually said that I was not right since I rode home and was not complaining about the pain...This Dr. has obviously never wrecked on a bike. Adrenaline does amazing things (and inflammation takes time :smilewink ), especially when you are glad to be alive, and usually a little giddy that you didn't total your bike.

Glad you are not totally put off by the incident. Have fun with the BRT next month. Sign up early, if you haven't already.

FJ, I chose the Buell because it is a HD. I made the chose to switch to a sport bike after 10 years of not riding. ( DUMB MOVE ) I rode a hardtail chopper for quite a few years and thought nothing of hoping on a sport bike, well they are a hell of alot different....LOL

I am registering to take the class ASAP. ( waiting for a check ). I will not be riding until taking the class. I considered the IRT, but being a totally new adventure I am going to take the BRT since I was told crash avoidance is a big part of it.

Sounds like you head's on straight, with a little unfortunate adjustments. Happy you've taken on the sport bike culture! Not many ever seem to switch from one to the other.

Once again, WELCOME to our family and I hope to meet you this Spring on a ride!

No offense to you snkkpr01 but I wanted to say lately I have met more and more people that never took the class at LCC or wherever, I figure out why! A couple of them just get there license at the DMV and the rest ride without it, I really don't get it. Its I don't remember exactly but around $120.00 and there is a pretty good chance that when something happens it could save your life...$120 = possible saved life...I don't get why people don't do it. I'm glad you have decided to do that class its an awesome class. I know I know there are a lot of times your sitting on this crap motorcycle learning things like your "clutch point" BUT the times that they do the crash avoidence and the "what if's" make it all worth it. I will say there has been a few times where you hit that twistie just a little to hard and the things I think about are what I learned in that class to do when that happens. I'm blabbering now so the question is why don't people just take the class in the first place? Makes no sense to me! The DMV is not going to teach you anything...

i think part of this problem is that anyone can purchase a bike with no license, unlike with cars. once they have the bike, it seems like its less important to get legal. i like you have met more unendorsed riders lately than i have endorsed. for some reason its easy to not take care of buisness. anyone can get on a bike and make it go. theres a difference in making it go and riding. the msf class teaches the riding. the instructors i had said the worst riders were thise that have been riding for a time with no class, especially those with any amount of time and miles. who knows if taking the class will save some ass squid from splating themselves on some moms minivan, but as they say about motorcycling, the more you know the better it gets.. i ride today like i want to ride tomorrow.
