Hey all!
I've been here at the coast putting lots of miles on my bike, and trying to get my head straight. I got a phone call from my wife last night......... she was pretty shaken up. I finally got her to tell me what was wrong, my good friend's dad was involved in a hit and run motorcycle accident in Springfield a few days ago, and was killed. And Jason has been trying to get ahold of me for a few days. So I got the nerve up to call him back, and it's true-Randy is gone.
I am very good friends with Jason, but considered Randy a good friend too. He always had a warm greeting and a cold beer for me every time I was over there to help Jason, or just to visit. He was a great guy. He loved anything with wheels, especially his harley. Heck, I sold him a car he was going to restore about 6 months ago. he hadn't even gotten started on it yet.
Jason asked me to be at the memorial service Saturday, so I'm putting the vacation on hold to come back and be there. I'll be heading over the hill today. I'm really having a hard time with this..... I've even thought about getting rid of my bike.....I know it's just my emotions talking, so I'll hold off on making any rash decisions.
I Pray the cops put down the doughnuts long enough to find the S.O.B. that did this, or someone turns them in. It was too early for Randy to be taken!
Sorry to ramble, but this has me pretty screwed up (as if I wasn't to begin with).
Please pray for the family, I know they could use it. This is more than anyone should ever have to face.

R.I.P. Randy. You were a good man, and you'll be missed by many!

Peace,
B

Thanks guys,
I knew everyone here would understand. We all know the risks involved every time we ride, it's just really scary when it hits this close to home. Jason is trying to get ahold of all his dad's buddies who ride to ride as a group to the memorial service saturday, so I'll be right alongside all the harleys.
I'll try to make it to bike night tonight, gotta see how I'm feeling. Right now, I'm not even looking forward to the ride back to Eugene.
Thanks for letting me vent.

That just took my breath away. I heard about it on the news, but I see how small the world can be at times.

I am sorry for your loss and for the people who were close to him.

I hope that they will get the person who did this. And I think they will.......

Thanks everyone! I got back this afternoon, and called Jason to see how he's doing. He's as well as can be expected. I told him if he thought about it and had a minute, he should come check out this thread, there's people who don't even know him who are sending thoughts and prayers their way. He seemed surprised, and said he would. I'm gonna go out and see him and the family tonight, so I'll keep you all posted. Sure is nice to have so many kind people around:thumbup:
Peace,

There was a news report on KEZI this morning. They interviewed the family, and released a vague description of the suspect vehicle. It's a light colored newer minivan with damage, and a rear wheel cover damaged or missing. They also said there was probably a red paint transfer from Randy's harley.
I got home last night and called J, but he'd gone out for the evening, so I'll be seeing him today, hopefully.
The news said the public is welcome at the memorial service, so if anyone feels like showing up and showing support for a fallen rider and his family, I'll get the details from Jason today and post them tonight or tomorrow morning. The service is Sat. A.M.
Peace,
B

I saw that too. Its pretty vague but if it has Oregon plates then there is a good chance that its still around. Whoever it is, knows that they are in some big trouble.

TAT2D, After you post the details as to the where's and when's of the memorial service, I will send out a mass email to all the members, and if your other riders dont mind a few noisy annoying sportbikes riding with you in tribute, I'll work with you to get it organized. Perhaps if the driver of the van sees all of the riders that it has effected, maybe he or she will turn themselves in.
Hang in there buddy.

Hey all.
I just spoke with Jason, and he said it's fine if we all ride as a group to the service. He did ask that we allow friends and family to be at the front during the service and allow the cars plenty of room to get through. I'll go scout it out tonight and see about an appropriate place for the bikes to park(for those who wish to stay) and fill everyone in when we meet up.
We'll be meeting at Shopko on West 11th tomorrow morning beginning at 10:00 am and leaving for the service at 10:15.
Jason said he will be following behind us in his Dad's Camaro. The service is out West 11th past greenhill, I can't remember the name of the cemetary. J can fill us in in the morning.

Sorry for the late response.
I was shocked and disgusted when I read about your friend's untimely death. Losing some one doing the thing we love is always hard. I hope that you will continuing riding as I'm sure Randy wouldn't want you to give up a JOY in your life.

My thooughts are with you and all those who knew him. I didn't but I've been there and understand.

***Are they still looking for the white/cream van that hit him?? I have my eyes peeled for that left front end damage everywhere I go. It may be up to us to find the thing and let the police know where.

Hey All.
I've been pretty busy lately. I found some work out here at the coast to keep me busy and make some extra money while I'm here.
The police haven't found anything new yet, so I think it will take someone turning this person in for anything to happen. If anyone sees a similar vehicle, call in the plate number to the police. FJMam is right, we need to keep looking for this thing......This person NEEDS to pay for what they have done. One of Randy's buddies went to every gas station in springfield and glenwood to put up flyers and offer a cash reward to the gas attendants (who sees more cars than them?) for info leading to an arrest/conviction. Most said they didn't want the money, they just want to help catch the person.
So keep your eyes peeled, and maybe we can help.

I have thought a lot about wether or not to continue riding, I think everyone is right. Randy wouldn't want me to stop because of this. It just really bothered me, the LAST thing he told me was to be careful on my new bike. It really scared the hell out of me when I found out he was killed.

Well, I'm gonna go on an evening ride up the coast. So I'll check you guys and girls later. keep the shiny side up, and watch for the drunks and police this weekend.
Peace.
