If you are not planning on going to the track stick with the powers they are a great tire and good life. On the street you should not see a diff cause you should not be pushing it that far. I also know many people that run powers for track days

What kind of bike is it going on?You could always try some of the softer 2ct's. The super corsas are definitely one of my favorites on the street though.

What don't you like about the regular pilot powers though? In my experience you have to get them really hot for them to be able to perform well.

I wouldn't use race takeoffs on the street though. Once they're used, they generally have a lot of damage from heat if they were road hard. (you'll see it in the color on the tire, and on the inside of the tire as well.)

purpleslug, what you are thinking about is overkill. You will get drastically reduce tire life, and little if any real benefit. I have always run standard Diablo's - not Diablo Corsa III, and not Super Corsa - and I have had all the traction I need on the street. I regularly got my knees to the ground on those tires, if that's important to you (of it that helps you get an idea of how much traction tires really have). Any dual compound street tire like the 2CT or the Corsa III will have MORE than enough grip for you.

Im happy with the Diablo Corsa III, nut Xusia is right - lil overkill.

IMO, while some tires do perform better than others, its largely a matter of preference. I've tried a few tires and come up with a few observations:

Pilot Powers: GREAT treadlife on the street, but they take a while to warm up. Once they do,however, they've got plenty of grip.

BRidgestones: Good treadlife, I just didn't like the tire at all, they felt like they had no flex and greased out easy.

Dunlops: NO TREADLIFE, they didn't last long but they were supersoft and warmed up quick.

Diablo's (regular not corsa): Good treadlife, warmed up quick and were pretty sticky. I did notice that out toward the limits of the tire (close to the edge) they slipped a bit, just seemed to lose a little bit of traction out there.

Diablo Corsa III: Currently my Favorite tire. I havent run Dragon Supercorsa's yet, but my Corsa III's are great. They have a pretty good tread life, they heat up fast, they're super responsive and I havent had any issues with the outside grip. In fact I've had a couple instances where I'm nearly positive that the performance of the tire is what saved me. Awesome on the track and on the street.

Mostly I would say, If you want to try a new tire GO PIRELLI!!! :victory-s
Just kiddin, try out a new tire whether its dunlop, pirelli, bridgestone and you'll notice the things you do and don't like in comparison with the Pilots. Pilots are great and a lot of riders both street and track will swear by them. Just try a different one and formulate your own opinion. Different strokes for different folks.

Oh, Last months Sport Rider had a tire shootout lots of good info there.

Hope this helps!

Awesome write-up...I'm glad I'm not the only one to notice that about the bridgestones, but I'm running a completely different tire too. ;)

Nice write up Batman! I concur with you (except about the Dunlops being sticky - I haven't yet run a pair that had anywhere near the grip of any of the other tires) - Pirelli all the way for me too! I just didn't want to bore Purple slug with a novel. Apparently that's what he wanted, so good job! :D

The only time I ran the dunlops was on a friends R6, they might be different under the Torque of a 1000

that's what I was going to point out. Tire consumption is heavily influenced by the bike it is mounted too. Twins eat tires :D

oh, an Brian's right, Pirelli's or nothin

Which model were they? I tried the qualifiers on my 1000 just to see what they where like and they never got real sticky. Granted it was only on the street but I did push them pretty hard but they never really got to the point where I would totally trust them leaned over all the way in a corner.

My OEM Dunlops seemed to last forever. Got about 6k out of them, but I wasnt doing a lot of "spirited" riding last year. I switched to Pirelli DCIII (thanks to tripplespeed for the front tire) and noticed quite a bit of difference and inspired more confidence going through corners.
The Dunlops seemed twitchy through corners and didnt grip for shit (given they were OEM)
Pirelli has definately made a new customer out of me. (Also considered the 2CT's but was advised not to get them due to lack of tire life)

Okay, I'll admit it. Still on my stock Dunlops and just crossed 8,800 miles on them. Heard good things about Pirelli for replacements when its time. The question for me is, when is "the time".

That's the problem. Tires that last longer are generally a harder compound...which means not as sticky.

As far as when it's time...are you down to the wear bars yet? They're in the grooves of the tire, spaced out every few inches or so. That and if they're cracking or showing any signs of age it's obviously time for them to go (but I'm assuming that's not the case).

You aint kidding... I was running 207's on my TLR... the last one I got 1200 miles out of, and it was smooth all the way across the rear...

Being a Fat Guy... I have the best luck with Powers. Then the old B-Stone 014's...

On the GSX-R I can get like 3000+ a track day or even two out of a rear... 014's were about 2000 + a t-day... DunSlops... forget it.....

The OEM Dunlop qualifiers that came on my 07 R6 stuck like glue when I let them warm up* (and kept them warm). I had no confidence issues in the corners.

*However last season was cut a little short when I didn't let the tires warm up enough (read - 'operator error'), and lost the front end mid-corner in a 20-25mph decreasing radius turn.

The OEM tires still have some life left in them. So I have no plans to swap them out, until they are done. I will just be damn sure to heat them up before pushing them.

Where do you buy these 8000 plus mile tires? I couldn't get that if it rode the whole time on a trailer (not you Trailer lol). That being said I like the Pilot Powers, got some 016s on now and I like them too however I think the rear is gonna burn up quick, too soft for the liter bike/fatman combo. Dunlops quality control is lousy. I've seen too many tires that wont grip at all, even though the one you had before stuck well. They dont last either way soft or concrete they burn up ultra quick. I agree with Batman on the standard Diablo, edge grip blows.
