WOOOO!!!!
Just got my new NInja 650r. First bike I have ever owned. First bike I Have ever ridden outside of the TeamOregon Class.
It was rainy rainy rainy. Pretty damned windy, and super cold. . . . it. . . . was. . . AWESOME!!!!:6cycle:
Freaked me out at one point, Oregon State Troopers came FLYING up on my ass after I passed them. Rode behind me a moment, and hit their lights.
It was because I had no licence plates. They were really cool though. Congradulated me on my first bike actually, and told me to make sure im super careful. That they didnt want to scoop me off the road :P They were cool guys.
All in all it was amazing. Hard to see, and cold and what not, but Im just glad to be home and out of this crapola weather!!
See you guys next week hopefully, depending on how my girlfriend is doing lol.

Congratulations Savorrow! That had to be a great moment in your life and shadowed by a crappy moment that turned out okay in the end. I'm next! I took that Team Oregon class at LCC last fall with Don Metzler and I'm still trying to get my wife ( :wife) to give me the nod regarding my first bike. I hope to make my Member name proud by getting a ZX-14! Then I can show my face at the Pizza Thursdays and go on the rides!

umm... don't want to be all doom and gloom here, but I wouldn't suggest a ZX-14 for a beginner bike. Lot's of factors to consider, not just power. insurance, weight, experience, etc. Just my :2cents:

I agree with these guys here. We want you to be around the community for a good long time. I don't want your experience to be you got spooked with such a bike, or because you got hurt.
A 600 is more than enough horse for most people. I have a friend up here that is 6'9" and rides a Ninja 250.

And yeah, the 650r was more than enough on the way home from Salem. So far at least:bounce:

It wasn't the plates that got you pulled over they just wanted to check out your new ride. Get used to it. I'm new as well and recomend reading The Pace before riding with these guys on thursday night if you havent allready. They tend to ride a little faster than anything you will find at team oregon and it will help keep your head on strait when the adrenaline starts pumping while riding in a group. Congradulations and ride safe. Hope to meet you on Thursday.

Congrats on the new 650 ninja! And yes, quite a few of the guys you'll see at the thursday night gatherings ride faster than the team oregon stuff (I didn't persoanlly take the course, but I've watched a little bit of it, and have recommended it to every person I've heard is interested in bikes)...just remember to ride within your own abilities. Start off slow and work on all the little skills. No one is going to make fun of you or think less of you if you aren't up with the leaders...besides, we certainly don't want to be contributing to any more statistics! :D Welcome aboard, hope to see ya out tomorrow for pizza!

:) thanks guys.
I may be out tomorrow. I may not be. I dunno. To be honest im super nervous.
Not goot at just showing up to a big group of people I dont know. Yeah, im honestly kinda petrified lol. :standcorn.
If the weather is nice my Fiance says I can most likely go. So, if the weather is nice, and im feelin up to it, I will try to mosey up the guys to head out.
Thinkin I may want to feel my bike out a bit more maybe. Killed it three times at stop lights between Belt line and River Loop 1. *shrug*

I waited a whole year before showing up to bike nites because I felt I was too new and not worthy enough. Don't make my same mistake!
Besides, I fully admit I'm the slowest rider in the whole bunch. And Wesley can vouch for me!

Everyone was new at some point and has killed their bike and what not. I guarantee it! Everyone is looking forward to meeting you, and I can't imagine anyone making fun of you or putting you down in any way. This is a good bunch, and I hope you decide to venture out. If you'd like, I'd even meet you somewhere ahead of time and ride in with you if that would help you feel more comfortable (weather permitting, of course). :)
The Pace is excellent, and a mantra to ride by in my opinion. Riding fast doesn't impress. Showing good judgment (which you have done so far) and understanding your challenges and limitations does. I couldn't be more serious when I say no one here cares the speed at which you ride (unless that speed is too fast or too dangerous) - it's about hanging out and enjoying the sport with like-minded friends.

Congrats man! Nice bike too! I like that front end WAY better than the 07 that I had! Props for wearin all your gear, and just stay away from the desire to ride 'just down to the store' without it all on. I hate when I see people in shorts and a t-shirt cuz they were 'just going to the store.' My first wreck, I was just going to get gas, and if it werent for all my gear, It woulda been a lot worse! Again, congrats on the bike and the first ride! :rad::ride::rad:

haha nathan, I wouldn't call you slow...hell for all I know all that distance got put between you and the rest of us cuz you couldn't resist the urge to do a little off-roading...I don't think you have the right tires for that, but hey, everyone's gotta learn sometime, right? :-P
I hope you come out and meet the group Savorrow, it's only scary the first time...once you do it, it won't be scary no more! ;)

:) thanks guys. Bike night starts at 7:00 correct? Thought I read something about it getting pushed up from 8:00 to 7:00.
I Will do my best, assuming my Fiance is cool with it. I appreciate the support :)
So. . . . Got pulled over AGAIN today on Beltline, lol. Im getting good at merging onto highways now though :P The cop today was really nice. Told me I could put his name down for a ride along I plan on doing soon hehe.
But yeah, I will try to make it out tonight *deep breaths* lol.

WTF? I have plenty of new bikes with no plates and have NEVER been pulled over for it. I know a guy who doesn't even ride with a plate - EVER - and he's never been pulled over either...
wesleyw
05-14-2009, 04:20 PM
I've only ever been pulled over once (on a bike haha), and that was for an out headlight I knew about and was tryin to limp the bike 10 miles home...hell he never even asked for identification, just escorted me to the nearest lit public area so I could sit and wait for a pickup. I wouldn't call my riding that of a saint either, you seem to have a target of sorts on you! Maybe it's just that sexy bike...

05-14-2009, 04:53 PM
LoL. Yeah I was told by my family (who watched me drive by them on beltline earlier. Just before i got pulled over actually) that i look like a florescent green spot lol. REALLY visible.
I think thats part of the reason I keep getting pulled over :P Its like 'Whats that green thing about a mile down there coming my way?'
Little update for tonight. . . I Wont be able to make it :( My Fiance's words were:
"What time is it?" I told her 7:00 and her response was "Your gonna be riding at night? No. Not until you get more experience". . . so next week hopefully lol.
Sorry about tonight =/

Just drive to the bike night, no need to ride! Meet the people, look at their bikes, and then peacefully go home! There's gonna be plenty of time to ride!
At the same time I kinda understand how it can be a little strange without a bike....

Plus it doesn't get dark 'till 8:30. Some people come, some people go, some stay 'till close... doesn't matter. Come on down anyways.

Very glad to see that you are not afraid to ride, regardless of the weather conditions. I think it's fun to play in the rain, myself. I love the look of the new 650R. I'd rock that B, over an sv650 any day! Love that Kawi green, too:thumbup: I look forward to seeing you at bike night...um, like next week. I had a couple beers, so my bike is off limits tonight. Also, welcome to Club Ninja!
Made that one up, sounds cool though, right?:victory-s

Do yourself a favor and put your temperary permit in a ziplock bag and zip tye it on where your plate would normally go. Looks tacky but they will leave you alone. At least it worked for me. Missed ya tonight. Maybe next week.
