Kris, if you can make it up to oakridge (58 miles) there are gas stations on either end of the aufy. My RC sucks the juice and I can make it from creswell to the back side of aufderhied on 3.5 gallons.

I figured that I would get all the basic stuff...burgers, hot dogs, potato salad, etc...since people are going to be riding before. If anyone wants to bring anything special they can drop it off at my house first. I don't have a whole lot of chairs...but those might be a bit tricky to haul on a bike...
Hmmmm, Aufderheide AND a bbq, all in the same day....I just may have to show up for this one if I'm around!!

OKay...I hope the weather is better for tomorrow. Please come to the BBQ even if you can't make the ride...I am guessing we'll be back from the ride and have things going by about 3pm. I bought food for about 100 people! Message me for my address ...I'd post it, but being a single girl living in the sticks, probably not the best idea. Or you can call/text me @ 541-510-6319 for directions. Families are more than welcome, I have lots of room for car parking as well as bike parking.
PS... Keep your fingers crossed for sunshine! :bounce:

I just got home and am supprised that noone has posted about todays ride yet. I guess I'll do what I can to fill you in...
We met at the AM-PM as planned. Got to Aufterheide, as planned. But shortly those plans took an alltogether diffrent route. The FIRST crash of the day happened to be poisonIvyR1. If he chooses to do so, I will let him fill you in on the details, but from what I understand, he was going into a right hander onto a bridge, the bump at the bridge stood his bike up and to avoide a high-side, he streightened it out and went for a little off-road excursion which ended with his bike on its side in some deep sand. A few zip-ties and some ducktape later he was on his way again. No physical injury there thank goodness. It just disturbs me that so many R1's have gone down this year...I just KNOW that there is a number on mine somewhere...
Anyway...About 2/3's of the way through the ride, a rider on a yamaha FZ1 (?) low sided in a left hander, and according to Tom_Cat (Who was riding behind him) His bike caught something while sliding and both rider and bike went airborn. The bike went over a large log and down an enbankment, while the rider landed at the base of the log and in alot of pain. I dont know the details yet. and Im sure that when they are known, they will be posted. But from my observations, The rider (I do not know his name and he wasnt one of the regular riders from the local area) was in some pain and complained that his left shoulder was in pain and his back did hurt. There was talk that perhaps his shoulder could have been broken and possibly a cracked vertebrea. But he was sitting up, and talking. We found out later, at Karen's BBQ get together, that the rider had been ambulanced to an area where he was then life flighted to Sacred Heart for further evaluation. If you know more about this rider and his condition, feel free to post what you know. But we will keep him and his family in our families prayers and good thoughts.
I dont want to overshadow the ride with those two experiences. The ride was AWESOME! and the BBQ afterwards was really great! Thanks Karen for your warm hospitallity and great food!! And thanks to everyone who went on the ride! I believe we had somewhere between 25 and 30 riders total on the ride!
There were a few people on the ride with camera's and Im hoping that they will post pics of the ride soon.

I hope that guy that wrecked is ok, i still havent heard any more details than just what we heard at the bbq. which, by the way... gotta give mucho thanks to karen for putting on such a nice (and spendy) bbq for everyone! hopefully she wont be too sick of hotdogs and hamburgers a month from now, since thats how long it will take for her to eat all the leftovers!! :lets-eat:
cant wait to do it again! we all need to take advantage of the little bit of good weather thats left this year!!

 Thank you everyone for a great ride & BBQ. It was unfortunate about the crashes. Jim (2nd crash) was on his way home (to Portland) from the hospital last night. He was really pretty fortunate, he ended up with a broken collar-bone, a broken rib, and his knee is messed up (they are not sure to what extent yet). James (CrazyMofo - Shift Red R1) said that they X-rayed about every bone in Jim's body. Nothing was fractured in his back...thank god!...( it sounded like that is what took most of the impact). I bet he is going to be so sore today :wow8: !
We may have to do a bike night at my house soon...I (seriously!) still have hamburgers & hot dogs for 75 people in the freezer! I guess I way overbought...I had no idea how many would show...lol.
I do want to say too...that despite the crashes...rolling up front on Hwy 58 and looking back to see (27 total bikes) that many sportbikes rolling together was one of the most incredibly cool things I have ever seen... it was something that I will never forget! :clapping:

I'm so sorry I missed it.
Thanks Karen for setting up the ride and the great BBQ! I got some good footage of the ride (sorry, no footage of the crashes). And I think a thanks should go out to Kitty and Tarik from SBWS for stopping by at the second crash site and offering assistance.

Inspite of everything the ride was great and the food at the BarBQue was awesome (Thanks Karen) :)
This was the second time that I have riden that road, and the first with a group.
I stayed with Don (the FZ6 that crashed) until he was transported to Sacred Heart, and then checked up on him on my way home. He is doing very well. Only the sholder, rib and knee injuries plus some minor road rash.
He seems very determind to ride that road again and finish it next time.

Thanks for putting together this ride Karen. I had a great time, except for the crashes. Thanks for your hospitality and for saving me a burger(you had LOTS of extras!), I was starved by the time I got there. I really liked meeting some of the great folks down there in Eugene and really liked watchin' that guy on the black 600RR doing his stand-up wheelies. I have wanted to ride that road from the day that I learned of it and I must say that it is one of the best that I have ever seen.:ride:
Jim is doing really good now. I went over to his place yesterday to help him with some things and he is getting around pretty darn well. He had an MRI on Monday and will know the extent of his knee injury on Thursday but the doc thinks that it is just a torn ligament and will heal on it's own. His collar bone is setting up well from what he told me and his rib, well...it hurts and theres not much you can do for it. He plans on returning to work on Monday so I think he is making a speedy recovery. His bike on the other hand is totalled. The frame and forks are bent as well as the sub frame and the fairing is obviously gone.
My apologies for taking so long to post but things have been busy around here and Myspace seems to consume most of my internet time these days. Hope to ride with you all soon. Here are some pics of Jim and his bike.

I talked to Jim today and he was telling me about the bill he received from the Life Flight chopper for a whopping $16,434!! This prompted me to encourage anyone that rides a bike to think about joining Air life of Oregon (http://www.airlife.org/Membership_agreement.html) to avoid the burden of dealing with crap like this while trying to heal up after a crash. Membership is only $50 a year for helicopter or $90 a year for helicopter/ambulance. This not only covers you but also family members that are living with you so you can't go wrong with joining especially when you think about the fact that it costs as much as you spend on gas in a day while riding. I am definitely going to join and would strongly encourage others to as well. I will shut up now:blah-blah
