A friend and I took 25 days to tour west America. We had a really great time and learned a lot along the way. We camped the entire time and cooked most all of our meals. We ended up spending less then $1000 each and only had one crash! Figured I would share some pictures.

We both realized about a week into the trip that we packed more clothes then we really needed. We both had to replace our chains a little over halfway through and at the end our tires were completely bald. It was both of our first time doing any touring at all, and my friend had only ever ridden 800 miles on a motorcycle before we left.

We both really enjoyed LoLo pass, but it may be a little out of your way. Its a very awesome road that has close to 100 miles of twisty roads, lots of wide sweeping corners and is just beautiful. Its the first road in America to be built in harmony with the natural curves of a river. We ran into a little construction but it was well worth it. No gas stations for about 75 miles, so make sure you have a full tank if you were to do it. The river that it runs along is right off the road so we took a swim halfway through to relax and cool down, I would highly recommend it. The river is beautiful.

Lolo pass is in Utah, I believe its off the historic Lewis and Clark Highway. I am not around a map but its very near Lolo Peak but I forget the towns on either end of the road. If you have some time its not too far out of the way

Awesome, simply awesome! You two have done what a lot of us would love to do, at least I would! Very cool and congratulations on making it back slightly unscathed. I'm sure if this is the last time you do something like this excursion, it will be a lasting and fond memory. Somehow, I don't hold much stock in it being the last, at least I don't hope so!

Cheers!:)

sweet! I'm in Baker City with my dad and another member. We just finished a John day run and Highway 7. I think 7 is probably one of the best roads I've ridden in a long time. Tomorrow, Hells canyon, then Lolo pass the day after. we plan on about 3500 miles in 9 days. Not to thread jack, just want to share the similar experience.

Looks like you had a great time! More inspiration!

The nighthawk was the bike that went down. We were in Yellowstone when it happened, going hiking so neither of us were wearing any protective gear besides helmets. He was just following close looking at bison and the cars stopped, so when he turned his head back he scared himself and used more front brake then he should and the bike slid out and he went down going about 30. Lucky for us nothing broke on the bike that prevented us from riding the rest of the trip.
It really was not bad doing it on the sportbike, my wrists were the only thing that gave me any trouble on the long days. We would stop every 150 miles or so for gas and to stretch and fill our Camelbaks. We ran into a lot of interesting characters along the way being that we were in Wyoming during Sturgis.

This is definitely not my last tour. After this trip we were both very inspired to see even more of North America. We have already begun planning a trip up through southern Canada to Chicago.
