Just read in the paper today that eight motorcycles parked at a red light in North Phoenix were mowed down from behind by a dump truck early Thursday afternoon (03/25/10). Three riders were killed and six were injured, at least one critically.

The most seriously injured was an off-duty Phoenix Fire Department captian who was in very critical condition.

The motorcyclists were stopped behind a pickup and a small SUV at the red light when the truck driver rammed them from behind. The truck ran over the motorcyclists and continued into the small SUV in front of them.

There was no sign the truck driver was impaired. ??????

Maybe not impaired but definitely distracted.

Please keep survivors in your thoughts and families of all in your prayers. And whatever you do, give yourself and out when stopped at intersections!!!. Keep one eye on what is going on behind you when stopped.

That is truly horrific! I hope they throw all the books at the driver! WTF!???

God almighty, why don't we have some kind of intellegence test to weed out the ding bats? How many times have we seen people doing this very thing on highways, at stop lights etc...................

that sucks real bad. I still remember that lesson from the motorcycle safety class "keep it in gear and your eyes on the mirror!" Im really glad they passed the cell phone law recently - hopefully these type of distraction wreaks will decrease.

Yeah, but unfortunately I haven't seen the cell phone use drop at all. Still a ton of people out there holding the phones up to their god damned faces while driving. Makes me wonder how well it's being enforced.

+1

I've had more than my far share of cell phone users trying to play 'bumper-cars' with me. I will admit that I still use my cell in a non-hands-free capacity. But I am also one of those exceptions of the rule, I am always hyper-vigilant when driving or riding.

I have noticed driving around town that not not nearly as many people are talking on the phone. I especially notice it at work cause I am always looking and those people get an extra long air horn blast lol.

Heard an interesting study this morning on NPR - During a recent study, researchers found that 97% of the population could not answear math or spelling questions on a cell phone while driving (meaning essentially 97% of the population cannot do adavanced multitasking and are extremly distracted while on the cell phone) However, 3% of the population had no trouble at all. This 3% are nowconsidered "Super Multitaskers" - which is a new classification brought around by cell phone use. Maybe you are a super tasker Tom

or maybe not - better not risk it!

Wow, that was pretty bad. could not tell if he had his blinker on but I suspect the mini van was rubbernecking the cop who captured it on film and probably did not see the bike change lanes.
