Hi! My name is Karen... I'm really glad to have a place to go hang out on the bike and meet more people that ride, and to see all of the cool bikes, and a few of the not so cool ones..lol. I will try to make it to most of the bike nights. I have met many of you and look forward to meeting many more. Currently I ride a Ninja 500... but soon to be on another bike (hurray!)...most likely an R6 for now. I've ridden on the street for about 10 months, and put about 5,500 miles on the bike so far. I've also been riding dirtbikes for about 3 1/2 years. :ride: Glad to meet you all!

Hi Karen! from one new member to another. I've seen you at bike night's  but have not had the chance to meet you yet. I have Ridden an 04 R6 and the power band is best suited to the track, and I have read the 06 is even more of the same, the rest of the bike is very nice :rad: .If you ride mostly street, you may want to consider a bike that makes it's power low and through the middle like a 636 or a 600RR , this will make your ride much more enjoyable:ride: Look forward to meeting you Karen & enjoy your new ride!!!! :victory-s

Hi, I just wanted to say welcome to the site. I have seen you at bike nights a couple of times. I ride a green 06' ZX-10R. Next time I see you there I will say hi. Good luck finding a new bike. It is always fun getting a new one.

So your opting not to bother with the liter bike :bounce:. I bet you will have more fun on a 600 anyway, hope to see your new ride as soon as you pick it up. :rad:

Thanks for the advice so far := ) I'm still looking at all of my options. A guy a couple doors down from me has a pretty nice 02 R6 for sale that I could pay cash for, but I've also been told that a CBR929 would be a great bike for about the same $$$. There is also a little devil on my shoulder telling me to just go buy a new bike..GSXR 750 maybe... though of all the bikes out there I still want an R1 the most. So we'll see soon if the common sense side of me wins or the "screw it you only live once" side...lol. I have to do something pretty soon though, it looks like I will probably be riding down to Laguna Seca at the end of July for the races, and I will NOT be riding the 500 down there. :bounce:

Heck... I was there until the last few were leaving at about 11:30pm! I didn't get there until about 8:30pm though...I had a meeting with my trail riding club before that...motorcycles, motorcycles, motorcycles :bounce: Nope, rain never keeps me off the bike, it probably should though...lol...I had to work after bike night for a couple hours and didn't get home and off the bike til 2am...probably a bit late for riding eh?

ledkat, what do you mean by "Trail Riding Club"?

I am a member of the E.T.R.A. (Emerald Trail Riders Association). It's a really great club for all things dirtbike. We go on club rides, help on trail upkeep and keeping riding areas open, we put on the Funky Chicken National Hare Scramble in Elkton, etc. It's also a GREAT way to meet more people to ride with and learn about good places to ride....I should be the spokeswoman huh?!...lol.

ahhh...okay. for a minute there, I thought you were talking about trail riding on horseback or something. Sounds very awsome karen, and its good to hear that your group is so responsible with trail upkeep too! Its people like you that keep those great trails open to the riders that love to make use of them.

Ah hah! Now I got a face to go with the bike. You ride good. I wasnt watching but I heard some good things from the guys.
Sounds like you could do wonders with a Yamer-hammer R6...... or R1 for that matter.
Nice to meet you.... at least from a distance.

Thank you!
I am supposed to go put a deposit down on a new R1 on Tuesday but I am getting cold feet...ack! Not becasue of the bike, but the $$$. Although so far, 10 to 1, I am hearing that I should buy new instead of used. I definitely have to figure out the insurance thing too. It sounds like it might be more than just a few $$'s more than the 500. It sounds like State Farm and Saifeco(sp?) are good places to get bikes insured? One way or another, I will end up with a different bike by the first week in July. On the way back home from Sundays ride I rubbed my foot on the ground through a corner :wow8: . It startled me and it really hit me how the little 500 is just not designed for dragging knees..or feet in my case...lol.:p

Kat, Once you do get a new bike, would you be interested in selling your current bike. I know someone that might be interested and all. If so, email me or pm me with the asking price and such. thanks

Any liter bike is going to be pricey these days. I looked so hard for a 916 through 998 Ducati but had no luck. I was looking "used" because they dont make these bikes anymore. I did have a 2001 R1 that I really liked. The power and torque was instantanious, but I felt like I was sitting on the tank when I rode. (Do you know what I mean.....?) It was a 10,000 dollar bike back in 2001... but not anymore, and they "rape" you with insurance for a 44 magnum type motorcycle. Hey, if you got the cash then you will love it. You could probably do alot more in the 750 to 900 cc area, considering your size and weight.
No matter how you slice it and dice it, it comes down to what you want. Some people want that straight line power and others live for that perfect corner speed with the bike all leaned over. I have gone from liter bikes and found my happy medium in the 750 or a 600 with big balls. Bigger is not always better. Bigger wears you out. I know from track experience. All in all I think you will make the right choice and I am excited to see the outcome.
Be good!
Jeff

Thanks. It is a hard descision, but I think I am going to put a deposit on an R1 today. I am a bit nervous about the bike because I am not a really strong person (thank god I don't have the tank problem..there are benefits to being a girl...lol) I have always wanted an R1 though, and if I buy it and hate it, at least I will know.

Sounds like U got a plan. Going once...... Going twice...... SOLD to the girl in the front row with the Ninja!
Sooooooo............
The next time will be in leathers.:rad:
P.S. Just to explain the sitting on top of the tank thing. Its a feeling like you are over the bikes center of gravity. Its as if you are sitting too far from the road and that feeling of connection with the tires is not there.. Maybe I dont explain it correctly, but I do like the part about girl/guy thing.
Maybe them things are getting in the way.....
I know I learned to keep my feet on the pegs when coming down off unexpected wheelies from dead stops.....
Summer4ever

YIKES!! I think that would even hurt "girl parts"...lol. I hope to be keeping both wheels to the pavement on the street bike. I'll leave that wheelie stuff for the dirt bike. Sand is my friend for playtime...

Unexpected wheelies?... did your hand slip off the clutch? That is a fear of mine. It did happen on the 500 once...but it was no big deal on the Ninja....that thing wouldn't wheelie if the front end was lifted by a crane....

No, actually what happened is I got it down to an art, with the R1, to pull hard from a dead stop and the front end comes up about a foot off the ground and keeping on the throttle it drops easily back down for the next shift. Anyway, I was screwing around and not thinking, left my foot off the peg on the right side, and when I let off the throttle, (I didnt even think the front tire was in the air), I came down hard and mushed my crotch on the tank........ It friggin hurt!
Some strange reason I have never forgot that experience......
:crash: .....:shhh: .....:mecry: .......:crying:
Did you pick a color for the YZF?

It's the Raven Black... I have a new conundrum though... I have been offered the chance to buy an 03 limited edition R1 that is immaculate, already has the "bells & whistles" on it, already been broken in, etc.... I know the bike, the bike owner, and the history. I wouldn't have to take any loans out at all if I go with that one. It would be a much smarter financial descision. Descisions, descisions!!

...AND a really nice bike...dont forget that part...I like that idea karen. Sounds like a wise thing to do.
