Sad stuff....

Michael Earl Adams, 19, loved his motorcycle and his brand-new baby girl and had a “large fan club” of friends, said his grandmother, Virginia Adams, this morning.

Michael Adams' life, however, was cut short when he died in a motorcycle crash early this morning on Garden Valley Boulevard in Roseburg.

“It's very sad,” Virginia Adams said of her grandson's death. “He was so young. He had so much working for him and things were starting to work out for (him and his girlfriend).”

According to Sgt. Aaron Dunbar, spokesman for the Roseburg Police Department, Michael Adams was driving a 2006 Yamaha motorcycle west with two other motorcyclists at 12:29 a.m. today on Garden Valley near the intersection with Dogwood Street.

According to witnesses, the men were allegedly riding at high speeds. Adams apparently lost control of his motorcycle, which struck the curb and caused him to crash, Dunbar said.

When emergency medical responders arrived on scene, they determined Adams was deceased. Although he was wearing a helmet, he sustained significant head injuries, Dunbar said.

Accident reconstructionists from the Roseburg Police Department and the Douglas County Sheriff's Office responded.

Based on witness statements and the reconstructionists' investigations, police believe speed was a factor in the crash. Officials estimate Adams was traveling between 80 and 100 mph.

Later this morning, Adams' grandmother remembered her grandson as a “good kid. ... He knew everyone. He did not know a stranger.”

Virginia Adams said her grandson was born and raised in Roseburg and got his GED about two years ago. He had been doing odd jobs before his death.

She also said her grandson was enamored with his baby girl, Madison, who was born Feb. 18. “He beamed when he looked at her,” she added. He'd had the baby with his girlfriend, Brittney.

Despite all the things going well in her grandson's life, Virginia Adams said she had a telling conversation with him Tuesday afternoon, about nine hours before his crash.

Her grandson had been bragging about his motorcycle. “He said he could get it going 120 mph,” Virginia Adams said this morning. “I said, ‘If you do, we'll be scraping you off the pavement.'

“I didn't mean it,” she said. She also remembers telling him, “If we were meant to go that fast we'd have been born with wings.”

Virginia Adams said she didn't know where her grandson was going early this morning. “He was probably just riding with his friends. He was probably showing off.”

Sometimes paying for fun, isn't fun.
Sad to hear of his baby and girlfriends loss.
Sad for all.
