If anyone had gone with me on 7/5 they would have had a front row seat for this! I was just a few miles out of Elkton exploring a backroad, and
this knucklehead doe zipped down off of the hill to my right and clonked her head on my fairing and brake lever. I was doing about 65, and just barely caught a glimpse of her in my periferal(sic?) vision before she hit me.:wow8:
I had two fingers on the lever, as I knew I was in a deer area, so the lever was bent around my ring ringer and pinkie. The impact was so brief that it didn't even lock up the front brake! It hurt like you couldn't imagine, but otherwise I wasn't injured. She, however, didn't fair so well (no pun intended). I think she probably broke her neck, as she flew all the way over to the other side of the road.
The bike has a crack about an inch long in the fairing, and her noggin bent the brake lever and adjusted the right side mirror and handlebar rearward slightly.
Thank You, Guardian Angel(s)!

I think that Angel must have done some Judo on the doe. Happy to hear you're OK.

Thanks, FJ!
I can laugh about it now, I even thought it was funny shortly afterwards, but then I started thinking in terms of fractions of a second, and what if she had come down the hill 200 msec. sooner? See below....

Your not the first hunter... My Sgt. hit one at 0400 on his way home on July 1st. Trashed the bike, and he took a trip in the woo woo bus to Mercy. Just bruised up, so he was lucky too... he said the worst thing was as he was laying on his back in the road doing the injury assesment he could hear the deer scampering off, and his holster was ground down so he couldn't even get his gun out to shoot at it...LOL!!!! Then he heard the truck coming and well... he got up and its all good....

Good grief! Glad you are ok. We're going to have to set up a hotline though... when this happens I could sure use some venison in the freezer! But seriously: :lets-eat:

Are your fingers just bruised up?

Yeah, I keep thinking about the crash last year (?) out on Siuslaw. Bike hit the deer dead center and nasty as it is, slit the poor thing in half. Bike and rider weren't in great shape either. I'll bet the pictures are still somewhere here on the forum.

Happy all is well with both you guys.

translate....deer, dogs and squirrels.......Let's not forget cattle and horses!
I remember when I was a kid my dad came home with the brand new Rambler and the passenger door all caved in. Same thing, deer running down a hill slammed the car. That has always stuck with me. Can't imagine being the brunt of a hit like that.........I guess that's why I have Fire Med + and long term disability.............

What bums me out the most about the whole affair is that I didn't have any way to get it home so I could skin it and cook it in the deep pit!:drool::drool::drool::drool::drool:

stop it! all this talk of slow cooked, juicy, crackly venison or just about any other red meat is making me salivate!
