Uhm, at 1st i was pretty sure the cam chain was lose because it would be all rough through certain rpm's. took me awhile but i got a replacement and installedit, but it didnt fix it. so i left it with ramsey wright and they said its in the lower part ofthe motor and the estimate is like 420$

hmmm.... if you can take it somewhere else to get an estimate it might be a favorable endeavor for you. not to sure about tractor mechanics working on a sportbike motor. sounds like a pretty vauge diagnosis and an expensive fix...

Talked to them today, after i recieved a some of money to pay for that. to find out THEY want $420 just for a deeper indepth estimate, not covering the parts or the labor. To me this sounds like a crock of **** and i could half way buy a new motor in just what theyre asking for. So im having a friend of mine come down from woodburn tomarrow, he's more of a mechanic then i will ever be so hopefully we can get some of this bs taken care of.
If not im probley going to be looking around for some diffrent mechanic work.

Jason, what kind of milage are we talking here? seems like a bottom end problem wouldn't make it run rough at certain rpm's. that sounds more like a fueling problem. it looks like a late 90's early 2000 bike, so I am guessing carbs maybe. could they be gummed up, or could you have a bad air filter. I would try there first. Also, EDR stands for Eric Dorn Racing. He's (from what I hear) a local engine builder and tuner that has worked up a good rep for himself. A friend of mine who lives in p-town swears by his shop. other then that, I recommend the triumph shop on 11th. Clint, the shop guys has always done right by me and some of the other guys I have talked to.

there is also this gawd awful sound that my friend told me soundslike the cam chain was loose, and i think thats what they are telling me where the sound was coming from.

possibly. if you replaced the cam tensioner, you could still have a slack chain. they stretch as they wear and a new tensioner could be at full and still not get the slack out. I would change the chain regardless, especially if you have high milage, and it is a good possibility that, fueling issues aside, you might very well need a valve adjustment. it is probably the shim under bucket valve style, from which I hear are realtively easy to adjust with the proper manual
