Hey all.. Maybe you can help..... One of my rucks had the throttle rolled on maybe a quarter turn by a canyon dancer and it sat like that overnight at a downhill facing angle. After that it now does this.....
It will turn over and over and over while leaking gas like water hose but won't fire up go. I did manage to get it to run for about 200 feet at the start but that was it. Its never shot gas out from underneath, ever. There was heat coming from the exhaust as I pushed the start button. I drained the carb for a fresh start. I pulled the plug and it wasnt ugly. I pulled a battery from another bike and tried it, no change but for the noticeably stronger battery. I chased wires for corrosion, there is none. All is well in the troubleshooting section of the manual up until where it gets into the throttle position sensor and that leads to ignition control and engine control. The key was not in the ignition during the sitting overnight.
Can you help?
Thank you!!

Drain carb, pull spark plug, let sit over night.
Can you determine where the gas is leaking from?

Sounds to me like the float is stuck. I would do everything mentioned above and if that doesn't work try tapping the float bowl with a hammer. Good luck.

check the oil and see if it smells like gas if it does you need to chang it also..if the bike flooded out that bad it can get past the rings and down into the oil.

Oi... Not making the progress I had hoped due to numb hands and a noncompliant back. I really could use another set of hands... Just checking in. I'm working on two bikes, maintaining a few others and making a record.. I just can't believe how lucky I am still, even through.

Today wasnt quite a disaster, yay!
I was able to complete the fuel filter replacement that had me stuck yesterday. A second set of hands as it turns out , are pretty useful. The old filter was heavy with whatever it has collected and I'm 99% sure that it the original.... I've been bombing around my manual just as much as the bike itself and today the extra item that came up was the radiator. I pulled pulled the four screws that held the cover expecting to find dirt but instead I was met with a mat of various seeds that were picked up riding through higher grass. There were enough seeds in this little space to seed the entire willamette valley. I shop vac'ed the stuff out and beneath I found great looking fins. Not too bad.. I found a piece of correct size tube to drain my carbs so there is no more environmental mess. I got the plug pulled and checked... Progress. Slowly but surely.... :)
Mechanical skill is being got.. And hey thanks Will.
Tomorrow, more work and another update.
Thanks all. Please feel free to come in with anything you might think would be useful in this situation. I wanna hear it all.

Just found your thread and read through it. I have to agree it's likely a stuck, or sticky float. Don't know what your riding (inline 4 / single / twin) so depending on the number of carbs you have, could really test your patience. If tapping on the bowl (common temporary cure) works for you, the next step is to pull the bowl bottom, or bottoms and give them a good cleaning with carb cleaner. Follow that up and run a quality additive in your tank to clean up your jets. A worse case scenerio would include removal and complete cleaning. Not bad if it's a single carb...inline 4? Yikes!
