Tess, the yamaha shop in cottage grove had a 748 for sale, don't know if they still do. they will sometimes do consignment and almost always trades. I have an inside there so I do a lot of shameless plugging for them.:blah-blah Once you ride a v-twin though, be warned there is no going back. Your knees will go weak every time you hear one after that....lol.. anyway, it is a beautiful bike if your a part timer and can do the maint. I know I'll be jealous:rolleyes:

Then I must be pretty rare because I bought the 675 for cornering ability and performance. To tell the truth, I wasn't so hot on the way the bike looked when I first bought it (compared to the R1's). Fortunately the looks have definitely grown on me now and I wouldn't trade it for anything!

It would be easier if we did them all at the same time, or at least the same day if you guys are really interested. Karen, I also want to thank you for the great pictures you an Aimee took of Tess. I had fun just hanging out watching the people who passed by!! That was certainly entertaining! And, guys, they would take great pictures of you too! Very creative, these ladies. Oh, I guess the thread is about Tess' desire to own a Duc...she called me a few hours ago, checked out the bike and it is pretty much a rag....broken stuff everywhere. She did take it for a test ride... that's my girl...ride it anyway just for the h--l of it! She said she liked the twin but it was just way too messed up! I'm sure she will tell everyone about it when she returns. Just thought I would get a few words in! She thinks Mom and Dad don't want her to have "that" bike. I don't care what she rides as long as she comes home in one piece!! And as long as she can afford it! Okay, enough from Mom:blah-blah

10-09-2006, 12:17 AM
well mom, it seems dad is warming to the idea a little bit since he surprised me with that cool book all about every duc they've ever made up through 2005... love it!
as for that bike i looked at... the woman told me it had never been down... but then i show up and she opens the garage... uhhh LIES!!! apparently her HUSBAND had never dropped it, but whoever owned it before had laid it down at least once on each side. the front fairing piece was cracked and broken, along with the windshield being broken off at one corner. each of the side fairings had been scraped all to hell with a few cracks here and there. dent in the tank about the size of a half-dollar. nasty rattle coming from the engine when the bike was at an idle... and i got the impression that there might have been some issues with the forks since it felt VERY stubborn when i'd try to turn corners. but, i still loved that stupid yellow bike!! even being beat to hell it was unbelieveably sexy (its yellow & italian... my two favorite things in a ride!) and it felt AMAZING to be on it. the height was pretty well perfect, as well as the weight. a little too leaned over the tank, which made my wrist a little sore and caused me to completely rest my ribs on the bike (not so fun if you hit an unexpected bump!) and the exhaust was hotter than hell on my legs... perhaps thats something i could learn to live with? still on the lookout for one of those things for bike #2!! want to try out some of the 600's that are out there and get a feel for the other brands... see if i find something that will work better. any volunteers? i'd be forever grateful if you let me take yours for a little spin

The 1997 Triumph T595 that I rode was the very same way, I am guessing it is more of an old age/old technology/heavy weight thing than the forks being messed up. :2cents:

Tess, if your really into the Italian thing then it is worth your time to go to Ron Tonkins Gran Turismo in p-town. even if you aren't going there to buy, it's like walking into an italian harem. There are Ducati's, MV Augsta's, Aprillia's and last time I was there they had Moto Guzzi's and some Lotus cars to drool over. They are hit or miss on pricing, and sometimes they have used, still worth it to see all of the italian stuff. Also, if you wait for fall / spring sales you can get good deals. My buddy bought a brand new Monster for about 1 grand under list during spring sales.
