When I saw the very first R1 I was impressed and drooled over it for years. Then the next generation came out, and I was even more impressed. Then just when I thought it couldnt possibly be improved upon, the 04's arrived on the scene and I was so impressed that I started saving my money for one. It took me untill just two months ago, and I purchased my 06 R1. While handing the money over to the dealer, I was very hesitant because I knew the 07's would be released soon, and I was hoping I wasnt making a mistake by spending the money Id saved on an 06. Yesterday, I realized that my money was well spent. This is the first year Yamaha has come out with an R1 that my jaw didnt just hit the floor for. Granted, I DO like the variable intake chambers. What an awesome idea to solve the power band problem in privious models! and that thicker swing arm does look nice. Slipper TYPE clutch now standard is a nice idea. But, SIX PISTON calipers? Overkill. My breaks work just fine, and I havent even upgraded to the stainless breaklines yet. Body styling, Im not impressed. Graphics on the blue bike are aweful! Exhaust looks HUGE and out of place. Im not impressed with the whole tail section of the bike at all.
All in all, a couple of really great innovations on the bikes drive train. Unfortunately its just to undermined by the lack of styling and general appearance of the bike. That and the fact that just about all of the current innovations can be adapted to my current model, I think I'll stay right where I am for many happy years to come.
IMHO

I like the color of blue thay used and I'm a red fan. But there is no way you could get me to buy a R1 untell this rash of R1 go downs is over!
Mike I found your # it's 1,234,567,890 I think the # of R1's that have gone down is 15 so you have a little bit of breathing room.:bounce: :ride:

the six piston calipers are there trying to increase there edge for those seeing serious duty. performance wise yamaha has definitely stepped it way up- looks though suck. find a way to mount the '06 plastics and exhaust on it and it'll be one hell of a package.

I think they did some frame changes. not absolutely sure though. Check out the Yamaha site here to see for yourself what all they claim to have changed and whatnot...
