View Full Version : An Explaination

With all of the comments being made about Oregon Sportbike, I feel I need to make an explaination...
I started Eugene Sportbike in June of this year. That was ONLY 4 months ago. Since then the site has grown and continues to grow exponentially week by week. And as it is growing I have noticed a trend of registering members that do NOT live in Eugene, but who are riders who have a great desire to ride with groups, attend Bike Nights, and have a place to post events of their own. There are also ALOT of riders that check the site on a regular basis and have not joined because they feel its a "Eugene Only" thing. Many of the riders that are members are from outside the eugene area such as myself and Jane, Fade, Ledkat, Redkrr, Borntorace, Triplespeed, Mooneyes, Grimsley, along with about 50 other members.
So why didnt I just make this site "Oregon Sportbike" origonally? The simple truth is that I wanted too, but at that time, the domain name "oregonsportbike.com" was owned by someone else. Apparently someone purchased the name a while back with the intention of getting something going, and it just didnt work out. And this time it may not work out either, But wouldnt it be cool if it did? I mean can you emagine our little site growing to be the largest organized sportbike group in the state? We could plan events with other local groups in the state, have MASSIVE monthly bike days at various locations, meet even MORE people who share in our interests, Those local sportbike groups would have a place to call their own as well and yet be right there on our own site. We could invite the 503Extreme group, Kneedraggerz, the stunter group that are friends of Ron up in Portland, and so on. The more I think about this, the more it makes sense and is such a great idea.
Look, I dont want to see ANYONE give up Eugene Sportbike. I just would like to see Eugene Sportbike added to and on the forfront of this STATEWIDE group. Actually I NEED volunteers to help me get this thing running! I need dedicated people that can act as Administrators and moderators of the site and various areas of the site. I need people that would be willing to go to motorcycle events and stores and try to round up sponsors. I need graphic artists to help design the site, and shirts, and hats etc. I need people to plan and organize events for next summer, and I need EVERYONES input on what the site could use to make it just AWESOME!
So comeone people! Lets jump into this thing with both tires and see if it flies!:rad:
Thanks!

:bounce: WoW Mike!

Has this been simmering for a while? You seem to be very fired up for this to happen.

Does Bobby have skills he can offer while he's recouping?

This does sound great.

I'd like to help some way. I think you should have a meeting for anybody interested.:drinking:

I had thought about a benefit ride- The Musicians Medical Fund. Curtis Selgado just had his Liver transplant and this fund helped with that. Plus it might get KRVM on board and local artists to perform. just one idea.

e-mail me if you want

1) I think unfortunately you may cause the reverse to happen by setting up too many forums.

2) triplespeed is local :)

You may be right and this may completely fail, but what if it absolutely takes off!? It will provide all of the sportbike groups in oregon a unified site to roll from. can you even emagine how awesome that would be? I honestly believe faliure or success is determined by how much one puts into their efforts, and I think this site is overflowing with determined people!

I really feel that I have made some great friends at ESB in the last few months, and look forward to making many more in the future. It is an outstanding group of people.
I think OSB has some major potential, so consider me "IN"! I can't type too fast, and I have dial up.:nerd:  But if there is ANYTHING I can do to help, let me know.

I'm happy to drive up any Sunday eve (except this one) day or night Mondays and Tuesdays.

Being new.....Are you guys connected with one of the cycle shops up North?

I might be able to help with some art. The old fashion kind (not digital). I write a pretty good letter too.

Want to help!

I have to say I agree. There is already a website that caters to all of Oregon (and a lot more). I like this site because the vast majority of it's members live in close proximity. Small also has it's advantages (things take less time to do/implement, less politics, fewer jerks, etc.). Lastly, ESB just sounds better than OSB!

That said, if it happens and the site does grow beyond Eugene I'll still be here. I certainly won't stop frequenting this site or using it to hook up with others for rides, and I won't be bitter about it. You started it - you go! If it does grow, I just hope it does so without all the negative things I've seen on other sites that grew.

Brian, the site is up now. lol. please take a minute to check it out. Again, I have no intention of dispatching ESB in the wake of OSB. I just want to expand on the good thing we already have going. And so far its taking off like wild fire! Thanks for your imput and have a look if you like: http://www.oregonsportbike.com/forum/ (http://www.oregonsportbike.com/forum/)
