OK boys and girls,
If you didn't see it at OSB, here it is.
We're going to do a couple trial runs at doing a poker run.
For those of you who haven't done these I'll tell you what my experience has been.
At meeting point, 1st bike out starting time. Last bike ending time at final destination.
3 or 4 stops along the way. At each stop the rider picks a card from a deck.
At the end of the ride the best hand wins.
There are other prizes as well. worst hand, Came longest distance to participate, those sort of things.
Some times there's a raffle, show 'n' shine, skills contest.
The tatal distance is some where between 100 and 150 miles.
There is a participation fee (at a real organized ride).
If we get enough interest it's been thought we could get this together before Mid-September.
See my post at OSB
Would anyone like to help me with this?
We'd like to try this April 15th Sunday.

Thanks Tess. :clapping:
We first need to have a commited group of people for the planning.
Route, Start/Finish times.
General discussion of goals and such. If it's just us then we'll get it done either way. But that also says to me this may not fly. We'll see. :idunno:
Shall we plan a first discussion time and place? I see Sunday March 11th as my 1st chance. Or Tues. March 13th.
Ya know, one of this site's sponsors and OSB sponsor, who happens to have his banner on the top of this page has done a few poker runs for charity. You could check with him for some pointers. The last one I attended was at P-town and he had a local radio station involved along with some local businesses that made donations. Non-monetary donations were used for prizes...
I've attended a few poker runs in the past and was even lucky enough to win one at SBNW. I'd be happy to help in the planning.

Thanks for the info Dan. We'll take that into consideration.
Yeah, there never were $ prizes at the runs I've done either. Which is just fine.
Tess, March 11th. Later in the day is better for me because I need some zzzz's when I get home @0730.
Anyone else??

I'll have to see about March 11th... the B/F's having surgery a few days before, so I might be playing nurse-maid that day... I hope I get to go and that the weather is good though! This rain/snow stuff is getting old. :wtf:

Ok kiddoes-----Sunday March 11th @ 6 pm.
"Game Day" in the Gilbert Shopping center-HWY 99 Eugene.
This is just a feel it out, preliminary meeting. All ideas and thoughts are open to discussion concerning a real "Poker Run" for ESB/OSB.
From this we can share what we figure out and grow from there.
Next we'll need to involve more of the OSB people beyond Bluegene.
Perhaps encourage some of them to meet too.
See ya!
PM me if you want my landline.

That sounds like a lot of fun and I would love to attend, but I was curious as to why we would do it at 6 pm when it is going to be getting dark. Wouldn't you want to do it in the light since it is on a sunday.

:blah-blah :blah-blah The Mar. 11th date is just talk. Trying to get things organized for a trial ride on April 15th. :blah-blah :blah-blah
 We want to decide what/when/where before we do a fake ride. If we have enough interest and participation then we'll do a real State wide invite to a OSB/ESB Poker run. :ride: :ride: :ride:
(see first post this thread) :smilewink

I'll duplicate this on OSB. Then watch that thread...OK?
These are ideas. Open for change, suggestion whatever.
K.I.S.S.
Keep it simple silly.....
1st run: 1 keeper of the cards. 2 decks different colors.
See how many show up.
Ride as a pack. Instead of spread out over time.
Circular route with Picnic/BBQ at end??????
Straight out ride???
Must have 3 stops between start and finish.
Stops need to be 25/30 miles apart with fuel.
Small ante/donation to winner's pot- $5.oo?
Date of run: Sunday April 15th
Routes-West of Salem/Corvalis to coast? Need in put for fuel,
cafes, turnouts. Personal favorites.
Other: 3 Poker rides? Based out of Eugene, Salem, PDX? Any and
all welcome.
Season start BBQ/Camping trip and Season end too?
We'll be talking about all this next Sunday the 11th so give us ideas etc!
Please!!!

Yes we're meeting tonight. Even if it's raining. Cage it or carpool or put the pontoons on the scooter.
Game Day turned out to be too dark :frown: to really look at maps and such. :idunno:
Rex Raider suggested Joey's Pizza in Springburg. 14th and A. Shall we try that???:lets-eat: Plus smokers can feel more comfortable.
I'm game.
I'll recheck this again after I get some sleep- 3 pm ish. OK?

 Results of Poker run meetings.
It was felt there just wasn't enough obvious interest to keep chasing this idea, for now. As the forum grows there will be more chance for these kind of things to be successful.
We felt that if some wanted to just free form their own Poker Rides that would be the easiest and most fun. :victory-s
So it's up to us individuals to do these if there's an interest. Watch the forums for postings. And ENJOY!!
Thanks to those that wanted to see this fly and supplied input and ideas. :clapping:

Sorry to hear that.
On a personal note, I would have loved to have participated but 6:00pm on a Sunday night didn't see to be the optimal time on a day like yesterday. Maybe in the future we can work it out for an early afternoon ride?:blah-blah :2cents:

We haven't actually gone on any rides. These have been get togethers to plan routes and such. We had no solid plans in place yet. So you didn't miss anything.
If these Poker Rides happen I'm certain they will be full days starting in the AM.
So don't give up.'K? :)
