I'm in the process of detailing the hell out of the Suzuki right now, I should have it ready to ride as soon as I get my new sprockets :ride:

When and where is bike nite?
I rode my RD up to Portland for the big two-stroke ride last October, it was pretty awesome riding in a group of probably 40-45 two-strokes! :rad:
I plan to go to the VME show in Corvallis this May.

Nice ones Mike. Are you a member of Oregon Vintage Motorcyclists?
We featured Yamaha at our Corvallis bike show a couple of years ago. Had some pretty nice old Yammies.
I've got a 1975 Kawasaki H1 500 triple in pieces in my garage.
A project I hope to find time to finish some day.

Hi Carlo,
No, I'm not a member of OVM, but that's the show I was talking about in May. Don't know where I got VME, must be another group I checked out online and had stuck in my brain. Do you have to be a member to show your bike?

Mike, you can show up and pay the $5.00 entry fee. That makes you a member for the day, and you can then pay another $10.00 to upgrade to a full membership for the year.
Any bike 20 years old or older qualifies to be displayed.
There was a Suzuki like yours at our show the last two years in a row.
The show will be on May 20th this year. Head up towards Philomath, and then look for 53rd Street just a bit east of town. That's actually 53rd Street for Corvallis, but it's closer to Philomath.
It's the intersection where the Bi Mart store is located. Take that North just past the railroad overcrossing and the fairgrounds will be on the right.
There's also a vintage ride on Saturday, and you're welcome to come to that too. Be at the fairgrounds by 10:30 or so. The ride leaves at 11:00.
It's a lot of fun, and you'll be keeping company with some pretty cool antique machinery. Indians, Nortons, BSA's, BMW's Harleys, Triumphs...
No snobbery though, most of our members have a pretty wide range of interests.
The VME is based in Seattle. I'm a member of that club too. Their big annual bash is the Isle of Vashon poker run. That's an event that everyone should attend at least once. They keep the date secret until just before the event, because it's become so popular that they had to try to limit attendance.
OVM members, and members of other vintage clubs recieve advance notice.

Carlo,
I showed the pic of your BMW to a buddy of mine and he goes to the Vintage show every chance he gets. We'll be going this year. Maybe we can go as a group.

Hey Mike, thanks for signing up on the OVM Yahoo Group.
I just approved your registration.
May I suggest that you set your account to recieve daily digests?
Sometimes there are a lot of emails, and it can really clog up your inbox.
If you're not a yahoo member, I might have to do that for you. Let me know.
You can also get full membership by looking for the form on the ovm web site.
You need to print it out, it's not an online form.
Send it to the address listed with your check for $15, and you're in.
As a member, there's no gate fee for the show.

I always meet up with a bunch of friends at L and L market (now called midtown cafe) at 16th and willamette.
Anyone who wants to is welcome to ride up with us.
Warning; if you're on a modern bike, I'll be way behind. As an OVM member, it's almost an obligation that I show one of my old bikes.

Hey Carlo,
Thanks for the kind welcome! I'd enjoy riding up to Corvallis with the group from Eugene, is the meeting place you're talking about by Newman's fish market?
Also, what time are people meeting up?
I just replaced the crank seals in my RD and still have to put the motor back in, probably going to do it later today if I can enlist the help of my brawny friend.
I was finally able to detail all those hard-to-reach areas under the motor and now every inch of the thing is spotless! :rad:
Thanks again,
Mike

Mike, we're probably going to meet up at Midtown Marketplace (used to be L and L, and it next door to Newman's) about 8:00 or so on Sunday.
I'm not going to be able to make the ride on Saturday, but if you're up for that, show up at the Benton County Fairgrounds no later than 11:00, sooner if possible.
The ride up on Sunday will probably leave about 8:30-9:00. Don't know if there's any plan for a group ride up on Saturday, but you could swing by 16th and Willamette as you head out of town to see if anyone's there.
Hope to see you on Sunday. You'll recognise my bike.

Cool! I got the motor back in the RD400 and I fired up the Suzuki for the first time since spending the last month and a half going through pretty much everything. Only took 3 kicks! I am STOKED!
Now I gotta finish getting the RD400 running so I can take it up this Sunday. I'll probably show up closer to 9am as I have to come from the far reaches of Springfield and I'm NOT a morning person. Are you thinking of going by Peoria Road? I love that road, nice black asphalt and not much traffic.
Sorry if I'm rambling, I just got back from riding the Suzuki and I'm really excited :ride: :rad:

We're not getting a very promising weather report.
The show will go on no matter what. They just move it indoors to an exhibition hall.
If it's really pouring down around 9:00, I may load the bike into my truck and haul it up.
If it's just a shower, I'll ride up.
I've earned the right to say it's too wet once in awhile.

Don't feel bad, if it's wet I'm not goin'.

Mike, it's 7:00, I've decided to ride my R69S down to Midtown and see how the weather develops.
If the rain continues as it is now, or gets worse, I'm coming home to switch bikes and ride my modern bike up.
If it lets up or quits, I'm riding up around 9:00 with a group of other old bikes. You're welcome to join us.
Anyone who isn't riding an old bike can join us too, or you can try to wait out the weather. The only reason I'm leaving before 10:00 is so I can help setup. The show starts officially at 11:00.

Wow, that blue RD400 looks familiar.
That pic was taken right after I got there so I hadn't had a chance to clean the shmutz off the pipes from the ride in the rain.
Here's a better pic.

Thanks! My bike was the only Yamaha in a virtual sea of Hondas, I think maybe that helped it to stand out.
The only other two-stroke streetbike was the '76 Suzuki GT250 in the pic above and it was very nice, I was particularly envious of the perfect front fender and fork sliders.
A big thank you to all who voted for my bike!

There's always a good turn out, rain or shine. In the 28 years we've been putting this show on, there have only been 5 years where it rained. Not a bad record.
There are a lot of people who ride there no matter what. I'm not always one of them, sometimes I throw a bike in my truck and drive up.
Seems like the Portland guys are mostly the ones who show up on bikes in the rain.
I'll post more pictures in the next few days. I have over 600 pics (got a new 2 gig SD memory card for my camera at Best Buy -$24.95!!!- on Saturday), so there's a lot to sort through.
Also, I'm sort of obligated to get the show winners on the OVM web page first, then post them elsewhere.
I coulnd't resist posting the pic of the Yamaha, and I didn't even know it was Mike's! I just thought it was an amazing coincidence.
So, you saw it here first, folks!

Here's a link to the rest of the show wining bikes. (http://www.oregonvintage.org/Peoples_choice/2007/american.htm)
If you keep clicking the "next" button, you'll scroll through the ones for 2007, then bump down to previous years winners.
I just set this up yesterday, and it's kind of a "beta" version. Got a few glitches I need to address, plus I have to find the original pictures for previous years. I used to run all of those on one page, so I shrank them all down. Only 2006 and 2007 are decent quality pictures.
Enjoy.
